Liverpool Town Hall

Liverpool Town Hall Guided Tours are back, allowing visitors an exclusive opportunity to explore one of the finest surviving town halls of the 18th century!

A base for the cityโ€™s Lord Mayor and all civic business, the Town Hall was established back in 1749 and is much revered, due to its masterful Georgian architecture.

Passing residents, visitors and commuters may have already admired the breath-taking exterior of this iconic landmark, which is crowned by a statue of Minerva and has all manner of decorative curiosities hidden in plain view. However, stepping inside will leave you with a whole new perspective of a building which has greeted Queen Elizabeth II, The Beatles and the Dalai Lama among many other esteemed guestsโ€ฆ

From the impressive vestibule โ€“ complete with a decorative groin vaulted ceiling, an encaustic tiled Minton floor and an ornate fireplace โ€“ our guests will be guided through to the distinguished oak and mahogany decorated Council Chamber, which serves as the epicentre for all civic business.

Also on ground level, visitors can take time to pay their respects to the cityโ€™s fallen within the poignant surroundings of the Hall of Remembrance, which contains Liverpoolโ€™s official Roll of Honour.

Through to the crypt thereafter, visitors will be able to view some of the plushest, most old-fashioned working toilets in existence (the fancy facilities will also be familiar to fans of Peaky Blinders, having appeared in scenes of the popular BBC series).

Heading towards the upper level, you will be welcomed by the luxurious grand, sweeping staircase โ€“ a show-stopping sight which has left many a guest marvelling in complete awe. It is in this same spot that you will be able to view the cityโ€™s civic regalia โ€“ an exquisite collection of silver which only ever comes out of its display cabinet during major official functions.

Once upstairs, guests can admire the astonishing interior of the Town Hallโ€™s dome, before ambling through an impressive collection of reception rooms, and leading through to both our Small and Main Ballrooms. Although differing in size, each space is as grand and majestic as the next. Both of these sublime rooms come with maple sprung dance floors beneath the dazzling glow of chandeliers.

So, if youโ€™re in search of a visual feast, laden with history and civic importance, then look no further than the resplendent Liverpool Town Hall!
